[net.micro] Avoid Inconsiderate Call-forwarding!

dob@ihuxj.UUCP (Daniel M. O'Brien) (06/04/84)

I have read that if you call-forward your phone to itself, the caller
will receive a busy signal if your phone is in use. If it works, then
while your modeming, no one is offending (except maybe your caller).

One suggestion was to call forward to yourself. On the dimension
system we have if you try to call forward to yourself, you get the
busy signal yourself. Also on any call forwarding you still get
the beep to let you know a call was forwarded. Sorry, try again.

The place that I used to work got a dimension PBX system and
there was a nifty thing (I forget what it was called) that would
allow you to turn off all beeps and buzzes. It was the *5
function! This was used to prevent call waiting signals from
comming to your phone. It was entered before you dialed the number.
It was really nice for modem use. It did however only work
for that conversation. After you hung up, things went back to
normal.
