[bionet.software.pc] A Plasmid Drawing Trick

INGLES.SHALES@BIONET-20.BIO.NET (Mike Shales) (08/28/88)

Here's a quick and not too dirty plasmid drawing trick you might
like.

First, enter the distances between the regions you want to mark
into Cricket Graph and create a pie chart. Then paste the pie
into MacDraw and cover its center with a white circle. MacDraw's
'Align Objects' can precisely center the white circle. This gives
you a ring with your regions indicated by different fill
patterns. To emphasize only certain regions (AmpR etc), just remove
the wedges of pie that you don't want to be thick. Each wedge is a
separate object, so select and delete those bits.

You're almost done, but the thin line joining the thick parts runs
along the inner edge of the thick segments. For a nicer look, make
invisible the outline of the central white circle. Then draw a
concentric circle with a diameter that splits the emphasized
regions nicely through the middle. Send this circle to the back.
That's it.
