EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Research in molecular biology, especially research relying on the methodologies of recombinant DNA and DNA sequencing. Experience supervising the work of others. Experience with use of molecular biology databases. Good oral and written communication skills. TASKS: Manage and provide technical leadership for annotators and others working in biological domain of GenBank. Oversee annotation group, including about 8 Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs) and 2 BS/MS Staff Members. Develop standards for quality and quantity of annotation. Select domains for unifying curatorial work. Develop contacts with outside annotation experts, and coordinate their visits and input to the database. Work with other senior staff on the project to establish and maintain overall policy and efficient operation of the project. Will be expected to conduct some independent theoretical/computational research. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Full understanding of field of molecular biology, especially the domains of recombinant DNA and DNA sequencing, as well as the biological systems being explored with these methods. Good oral and written communication skills. Experience in supervising work of others. TASKS: Coordinates efforts of staff at Los Alamos providing annotation for GenBank entries. Work under supervision of Biological Domain Leader to provide standards for quality and quantity of annotation. Help recruit and train Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) annotators. Provide input point for routine corrections to database from outside sources, funnel this input to appropriate annotators, and maintain correspondence with those providing such input. Coordinate distribution of annotators on various long-term and short-term annotation tasks. Develop both documentation for training annotators and a training program. Develop documentation reflecting curatorial overview of various gene/organism groups.
