Computational Biologist
The Biological and Chemical Data Department of Merck Sharp & Dohme Research
Laboratories is seeking highly talented individuals with a background in
biochemistry and/or molecular biology who have an interest in (1) applying
computer technology to problems of storing, querying, and linking biological
and chemical data and (2) using computer technology to analyze molecular
biological data. Vacancies presently exist in each of these areas.
The successful candidate for position (1) should have a B.S./M.S in a
biological science with 2 to 3 years of experience and should have knowledge of
the fundamentals of computer programming in a VAX environment. Experience with
RS1 and ORACLE is desired.
For position (2) the successful candidate should have a Ph.D in biochemistry,
molecular biology, or microbiology or a lesser degree with appropriate
experience and should have experience with molecular biology software such as
Intelligenetics or the University of Wisconsin packages.
Both positions require excellent interpersonal skills and require extensive
interactions with other computer professionals and scientific researchers.
Teaching experience is desired.
