POSTDOCTORAL POSITION A postdoctoral position is available to study microbial desulfurization of coal (for a general review, see Annual Review of Microbiology 39:371-389, 1985). The project will consist of identifying relevant desulfurization genes from environmental Pseudomonas isolates, cloning these, and engineering the genes for increased expression in Pseudomonas and Thiobacillus species. Techniques to be used include transposon mutagenesis, genomic library constructions, chromosomal mapping, subcloning, gene and protein fusions to lacZ or phoA, promoter identification and enhancement by mutagenesis, and extension of cloning technology to Thiobacillus species.
