Unix Systems Support Coordinator
Mayo Foundation, Research Computing Facility

The Mayo Foundation has an open position at its Rochester, Minnesota,
Research Computing Facility (RCF) for a Unix Systems Support Coordinator.
This new position will be responsible for administering Unix-based
workstations and servers throughout Mayo's research facilities, and will
assist in the management of a growing enterprise network. This position
will be highly visible, working extensively with researchers, physicians,
laboratory technicians, and other computer professionals. Excellent
interpersonal skills are requisite. The person hired will work as part of a
team within the RCF, helping provide researchers general computing and
networking support.
The RCF assists over 100 research programs by providing a central
VAXcluster, as well as support services to laboratory-based PCs,
workstations and minicomputers through a campus-wide ethernet network.
RCF-supported platforms and technologies include: VAX, VMS, ULTRIX, SUN,
NeXT, Macintosh, MS-DOS, NFS, TCP/IP, DECNET, PCSA, DECwindows/X11, Cisco,
Vitalink, etc.
Position responsibilities will include:
Planning and installation of networked Unix systems
Administration of user accounts
Systems programming
Implementing operational procedures
System performance management/capacity planning
TCP/IP network administration (both local and wide area nets)
User training and assistance
Assisting the migration of applications from a variety
of platforms (VMS,MS-DOS,VM/MVS)
Being part of a team researching new computing technologies.
Candidates must have achieved a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Math,
Physics, or a related field, and have 4 years experience in working with
production Unix systems and/or TCP/IP environments. Extensive knowledge of
Unix systems management and user tools, NFS, Yellow Pages, BIND, and 'C'
programming is also required. Experience with VAX/VMS, Ingres, SAS, X11,
NeWS, DECNET, MS-DOS, and SUN Microsystems hardware/software are definite
pluses.
