RESEARCH ANALYTICAL CHEMIST

	The U.S. Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratory, located
in Champaign Illinois, has an immediate opening for an analytical chemist
with specialization in environmental sampling and analysis.  As a member of
the Water Quality Management Team, you would be involved in a broad
range of environmental problems ranging from drinking water treatment to
explosives contaminated soil.  USACERL has a number of collaborative
research efforts underway with the University of Illinois, Illinois State Water
Survey and Hazardous Waste Research and Information Center, offering a
broad range professional challenges.  As an affiliated agency to the University
of Illinois, USACERL has access to a broad range of support and activities.

	A Ph.D. in chemistry or environmental science is desired, but candidates
with M.S. in analytical chemistry and experience in environmental chemistry
and laboratory operations will be considered.  The successful candidate will
be responsible for technical management of a water/wastewater/industrial
waste analytical laboratory, and development of experimental protocols.  This
is a hands-on position in research areas including water and domestic
wastewater treatment, industrial wastewater characterization and treatment
from operations such as explosives manufacturing, vehicle maintenance,
electronics manufacture and maintenance, etc.  Experience with IR, UV/VIS,
GC, HPLC, GC/MS, AA, water and wastewater analyses, soil analyses,
QA/QC procedures and with EPA accepted methods and protocol is
desirable.  Duties will include training staff on instrumentation, interacting
with university research staff and contract laboratories, planning and
execution of experimental protocols, and presentation of plans, progress and
results to higher staff, academia and professional organizations.  Excellent
verbal and written skills are necessary.  Salary range is $29,891 to $46,571
depending on experience and qualifications.  Recent graduates with U.S.
