			 COMPUTER PROGRAMMER

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary responsibility will be developing software to be used in
accessing and maintaining the GenBank Nucleotide Sequence Database.
Applications include window-based interface tools, remote
communication software, database maintenance routines, database report
generation code, and software implementing various algorithms used in
the analysis of DNA sequences.  Software is written in the 'C' and
'C++' programming languages, using the Sybase relational database
management system.


EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Extensive experience with the 'C' programming language, preferably in
the context of the Unix operating system, is required, and experience
with 'C++' is also desired.  Experience with relational database
management systems and SQL as well as experience writing user
interface code is highly desirable.  Knowledge of network protocols is
desirable.  The ability is needed to work as a team member on a highly
structured software project as well as the ability to work
independently.


EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in computer science or related discipline,
or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
