[bionet.jobs] Postdoctoral offer

csax@helix.nih.gov (Carl Saxinger) (11/07/90)

Postdoctoral positions will be available in the Laboratory of
Tumor Cell Biology (LTCB), Division of Cancer Etiology, Nationa
Cancer Institute. The positions will commence during the summer of
1991, require degree documentation, three letters of reference and
at least 3 to 4 months to process applications. Intramural
Research Training Awards (IRTA) for U.S. citizens and NIH
postdoctoral fellowships for foreign candidates are available.
Applicants must have less than 3 years postdoctoral research
experience. Beginning stipend is $25,000 to $28,000.

Areas of investigation include development of HIV vaccine, mapping
of helper and cytotoxic T cell epitopes, mapping of immuno-
regulatory functions of HIV, HTLV & HHV6 viral proteins, mechanisms
of receptor recognition and growth factor function by bioassay, and
molecular modelling.

This lab has developed an automated method and device for the
design and synthesis of any 96 designated peptides in 96 well
microtiter plates. The entire process is computer controlled and
has been used to translate genomic sequences into "pepscan"
overlapping peptide sequences and to generate variant length and
amino acid substitution analogues, usually in less than 24 hour.
The process has been successfully demonstrated by mapping peptide
sequences to immnuodominant antibodies for HIV and HTLV human
retroviral proteins, for lymphokines, and for cytokines. Also for
cellular adhesion molecules and integrin receptors. This lab is
also equipped with an ABI peptide synthesizer and has access to
molecular biological support, patient materials, experimental
animal facilities, and supercomputer facilities.

For inquiries concerning these positions and the application of
synthetic peptides in studies of immunology, virology and cell
biology please contact
