           Fellowship Opportunity in Northern Sciences


Applications are requested for an individual who would spend up
to six months based at the MAB Northern Sciences Network head-
quarters in the Arctic Centre, University of Lapland, Rovaniemi,
Finland.

The fellowship would provide up to $3,000 per month for salary
and cost-of-living allowance and travel funds.

The Northern Sciences Network (NSN) is a program of UNESCO Man
and the Biosphere (MAB) program which distributes information
about ongoing Arctic and northern research through a newsletter
and acts as a clearing house for information on special problems
such as sustainable development, human/environment interactions
and global environmental monitoring as they relate to northern
lands.

The Fellow would be expected to help with newsletter de-
velopment, international communication and the development of
international programs in northern science, such as ITEX (Inter-
national Tundra Experiment) or the Norwegian northern pastoral-
ist project. There will also be opportunities for personal re-
search.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. degree or its equivalent and re-
search experience in social and/or environmental sciences. The
position has no citizenship or residency limitation.

The fellowship is administered by Michigan State University.
