 03-April-1991: VERY URGENT !!

The Laboratory of Cellular and Molecular Biology in VERSAILLES (France) is
recruiting immediatly someone to take care and develop its computer facilities
for molecular biology.

The laboratory is situated 20km west from Paris ( right inside the park of the
Versailles Castle ! ), in an INRA Research Center involved in plant research and
agronomy (from the molecule to the crop, through soil and biometrics!).
The laboratory itself comprises several teams dealing, for more than a decade
now, with Plant Cellular Biology (Nicotiana, Brassica, Arabidopsis // plant
regeneration from protoplasts, cybrids, mutants selection, transformation) and
Molecular Biology (CMS/mitochondrial genome, transposons//gene tagging,
regulation of nitrate assimilation, resistance to pathogens and pests,
phytohormones//development). The lab is planning to take part in the Arabidopsis
genome sequencing project, a task in which the newcomer will be deeply involved.
Altogether around 100 people are working there (of which, 1/3 are undergraduate
or thesis students)

The computing environment includes a VAX/VMS system (3100, mini & station)
specially devoted to Molecular Biology (sequences and programs), MacIntosh
microcomputers (15) and some MSDOS compatibles, everything linked on Ethernet to
a SUN/Unix mainframe (from which you get this mail!) used as server for the
Research Center. The newcomer will have to take care and develop the computing
facilities for molecular biology in direct link with scientists, installing and
possibly developping programs, to maintain the VAX/VMS system and to care for
its evolution. He (or She, of course!) will be involved in helping and teaching
people using the computer facilities (( a patient candidate is welcome here..)).
He/She will more generally help in caring for development of anything linked to
computers in the lab, whatever the purpose, (netware, hardware, sofware..).

Ideally we are looking for someone insterested by both sides of the job, with
serious computing knowledge and real interest in biology.

The position offered is an INRA permanent position, with a french government
public status (around 120.000 FF/year, as a beginning). Therefore, it is
submitted to a concourse recruitment process, involving interview in front of a
jury. The french nationality is not a prerequisite.

THE CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATION IS ON THE 30TH OF APRIL
