The neurochemistry laboratories have two new positions open, one for a post- doctoral fellow and one for an advanced postdoctoral fellow or reserch assoc. New grants from the NSF and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society support work on the oligodendrocyte-Schwann cell marker enzyme CNPase. (See review in CRC Critical Reviews in Neurobiology, 1989 for a comprehensive review). Both positions are for qualified candidates with molecular biology training and experience. We recently assigned this gene to human 17 and 11 chromosomes by PCR and Somatic Cell DNA (hybrids) panels. We have been interested in the enzyme, its structure, posttranslational modification, gene structure and its expression in cell culture and in transgenic mice. Available are monoclonal and polyvalent antibodies, complete intron 3 in bluescript, various nucleotide primers and probes, etc. This is an extremely interesting project and several different approaches are being considered. These related projects are not easy, but have been quite challenging and fascinating. The laboratories are well equipped. This group is not real large, but postdoctoral candidates are expected to write their own proposals when ready for their own research support as principal investigator. Candidates are being interviewed at the FASEB meeting in Atlanta, GA in April and thereafter. If interested in this position, write to Dr. Terry Joe Sprinkle, Neurochemistry Laboratories, VA Medical Center, Augusta, GA 30910, USA, phone (404) 721-2029 or (404) 860-3426 FAX 24 hours a day. Please apply prior to July 1, 1991 for either of these positions.
