[bionet.jobs] Postdoc in Mol Biol of Poysaccharide Synthesis

dcoplin@magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu (David L Coplin) (04/13/91)

                       POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER
                      THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This is a USDA-funded project to carry out research on the biochemical
genetics of extracellular polysaccharide (EPS) biosynthesis in Erwinia
stewartii, a bacterial pathogen of corn. EPS is the major virulence factor
of this pathogen and this is one of only a few systems in which the
genetics of EPS synthesis is fairly well characterized. The individual
will construct defined EPS mutants by site-directed mutagenesis of
previously cloned EPS genes, further develop a "cell-free" system for
radiolabeling EPS in cell extracts, and characterize the lipid-linked
oligosaccharide intermediates accumulated by the EPS mutants.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in a biological science with experience in general biochemistry
and/or molecular biology.
