The Human Genome Information Resource (HGIR) at Los Alamos National Laboratory has openings from time to time for programmers, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate research assistants. HGIR develops software tools for the assembly of human genome maps. Related projects at Los Alamos include the physical mapping of human chromosome 16, GenBank (the national database for genetic sequence information), and several projects whose aim is to understand the structure and function of the genome (e.g. prediction of the three dimensional structure of DNA and automated recognition of genes in DNA sequence). Application programs developed by HGIR include interfaces to Database Management Systems, tools for the acquisition of raw data in the laboratory, and interpretive software for analyzing molecular biology data. Most software development takes place in C or C++ on Sun workstations. For information on specific openings, send a reply, preferably including a resume, to James W.
