[bionet.molbio.genbank] Understanding Genbank

RICHMOND@iubacs.bitnet (12/03/88)

Our group has a nucleotide sequence of a Drosophila esterase in Genbank. When
we submitted this sequence we also indicated the amino acid sequence of the
protein. However, the protein sequence is not in the NBRF database. I was
under the apprehension that a sequence submitted to Genbank which coded for a
protein would somehow find its way into the NBRF database. Is this wrong? If
it is, how do I get our protein into NBRF? Thanks for the help.

Rollin,

When the XGENPUB program on BIONET is used to submit sequences
copies are automatically sent to GenBank, PIR, and EMBL. GenBank at
Los Alamos also cooperates with PIR on other submissions. I do not
know what the expected time for entry in PIR is after receiving data
from GenBank so I'll have to defer to others on that.

Rollin,

Protein sequences can be mailed to the BITNET address
pirsub@gunbrf (pirsub@gunbrf.bitnet from the BIONET computer). The
same data submission form can be used for all of the databanks now.
Of course if you use the XGENPUB program on BIONET the addressing of
the mail message is taken care of for you.
