[bionet.molbio.genbank] Protein sequence data

laurie%codon@LANL.GOV (Laurie Tomlinson) (12/17/88)

Dear Dr. Richmond:

All sequence data submitted through the XGENPUB program is automatically
submitted to PIR. GenBank forwards all other submissions that we receive
to PIR on a weekly basis. Also, after each GenBank update cycle a complete
protein translation of the entire database is sent to NBRF. Since your
sequence has been in GenBank since June of 1987 it has probably been included
in at least six of those translations.

I have discussed your problem with Michael Lewis of NBRF. He has informed
me that the translation tapes are used mainly for comparison of data and
all entries in GenBank are not necessarily present in PIR. He did, however,
say that your sequence data has now been incorporated and you should be able
to access it.

Thank you for bringing this situation to our attention. We are now taking
steps to insure that GenBank data finds its way into the NBRF database in a
more timely fashion. If you have further problems, please feel free to
contact me.
