While reading through some of the papers Genbank have published on the future structure of Genbank I have gathered some questions. I begin here with som of them. Genbank has published a document describing the structure of Genbank when put into relational form. It is simple to implement this schema if you have a relational database handler. We have done this to be able to follow the developments in this area and to continue with some development in areas of our own interest. The more difficult part is the transaction "protocol" that they suggest. Possibly because the definitions are not as mature as the database definitions. I wonder if there is any more publications than the INTRO and ENTITIES definitions with last change dated 1 September 1988? Are there by now complete transaction definitions that covers the whole database structure? Is this transaction protocol implemented and used in some kind of software? At last i want to suggest that the fields in the database with names containing "'" signes will be renamed. I.e fs_5'sym -> fs_5primsym. This is because special characters are usually not allowed in names of fields in databses.
