kristoff@GENBANK.BIO.NET (Dave Kristofferson) (08/02/90)
To users of the GenBank FASTA-MAIL server: Please note that the FASTA-MAIL server enforces the following limits on search submissions: GenBank: 3 <= ktup <= 6 EMBL: 3 <= ktup <= 6 GenPept: 1 <= ktup <= 2 SWISS-PROT: 1 <= ktup <= 2 These limits were imposed to prevent congestion in the batch queue, particularly when users try to submit DNA searches at ktup=1. Values submitted outside of these ranges will be converted to the lowest or highest acceptable value, i.e., if a GenBank search with a ktup value of 1 is submitted, the value will be changed to 3 while a submission with a ktup of 9 will be changed to 6. The ktup value actually used in the search is displayed in the search output. A new version of FASTA-MAIL was put up last week (7/25/90) and a problem was reported to us today with the GenPept ktup limits. GenPept searches submitted last week with a ktup of 1 were modified by the server to use a ktup of 2. Although this was indicated in the output returned by the server, we wish to alert our users to this point. The problem has been fixed. All ktup limits are working correctly for all databases. Our thanks to the person who brought this to our attention. Sincerely, Dave Kristofferson GenBank On-line Service Manager kristoff@genbank.bio.net
