I know the basic chain of events for sequences being submitted to the major databases and the turn-around times for GenBank. Several people have asked me recently, however, what is the time frame for a sequence submitted and processed at EMBL showing up in the GenBank nightly updates (and vice versa). Could someone enlighten me (us)? Thank you! John, Your message is primarily directed towards EMBL, however with respect to the GenBank's end of things: all entries leaving Los Alamos are forwarded to IntelliGenetics, EMBL and DDBJ at the same time. Most of these servers are updated on a nightly batch basis with that day's stack. So given time differences, it is probably fair to say that all the servers are updated within 24 hours of the data leaving Los Alamos. In addition both EMBL's and GenBank's Quarterly Tape releases are phased so that each databank receives the other databank's release in time to incorporate the data in their next release.
