We cannot help but feel a little "chuffed" at the fact that we just released the complete sequence for Vaccinia Virus. This was a 191,636bp sequence which was, surprisingly, printed in an appendix to this month's issue of Virology. The sequence was released in fully annotated form yesterday, on the same day that we received our copy of that journal, hence the data were available on-line at publication. It is one of the largest contiguous sequences submitted to the database. Our thanks to the authors, from Virogenetics, for the extent of annotation (198 major, 65 minor ORF's) provided, and to the editorial staff at Virology. Goebel, S.J. et al, Virology 179, 247-266 and Virology 179,517-563. Paul Gilna, GenBank, Los Alamos
