AUTHORIN 2.1 for the Macintosh Available by FTP AUTHORIN is a software tool developed by GenBank to assist researchers in preparing their sequence data for submission to the data banks. The program collects all the information needed for a data bank submission, then prepares a submission file that you can send to the data bank via electronic mail (or on a floppy disk, if you prefer). AUTHORIN submission files can be converted directly into GenBank, EMBL, or DDBJ entries, which significantly reduces the time and effort needed to process the submission. Authorin 2.1 for the Macintosh can now be obtained by anonymous FTP from genbank.bio.net (Internet address 134.172.1.160). It is located in the file pub/mac/authorin/authorin2.1.hqx. This file is a binhexed stuffit archive. After transferring the file to your Macintosh, you will need to use Stuffit 1.5 or Unstuffit 1.5 (or more recent) to convert the file into a Macintosh application. (Be sure to use the 'Decode BinHex File' command before extracting the archived files.) Stuffit 1.5 is available for anonymous FTP from genbank.bio.net in the pub/mac/dearchive directory. NOTE: If you obtain AUTHORIN by FTP and wish to be notified of future software updates, please send a message containing your name, postal and e-mail addresses to authorin@genbank.bio.net. (Be sure to indicate that you obtained the program by FTP and whether you obtained the IBM-PC or Macintosh version.) If you previously received AUTHORIN 2.0 for the Macintosh, be sure to replace it with the updated 2.1 release. If you use an IBM PC-compatible computer you can also use the AUTHORIN program. Release 1.1 for the IBM is available for FTP in the directory pub/dos/authorin. AUTHORIN includes extensive on-line help. In addition, a postscript version of the user manual is available for FTP in the file authorin2.1manual.ps. A hard copy version of the manual will also be sent on request. If you need help preparing your submisssion or would like to receive documentation, call toll-free 1-800-477-2459, or send a message to authorin@genbank.bio.net. We hope you find AUTHORIN a useful tool for submitting your sequence data. Julie Ryals Assistant GenBank Manager (415) 962-7309 ryals@genbank.bio.net
