From: James Byrd <jbyrd@BBN-VAX.ARPA> The June 25 Infoworld had a full page ad for a Hayes-compatible 1200-baud modem for $329. The company is "Qubie'". Has anybody had any experience with them? Is there any reason not to buy one of them rather than a Hayes or Apple modem? Jim Byrd

My partner in hardware crime reports to me that the Qubie modem is very good, and that (because of its price) he will be selling it as the modem of choice for IBM-PC and related sales. Guess he liked it. -- -Brian Kantor, UC San Diego ihnp4 \ Kantor@Nosc decvax \ akgua ----- sdcsvax ----- brian dcdwest/ ucbvax/ "I'll never be cruel to a gin and tonic again!"

Got one in Dec. and it didn't work, it would garble strings of characters which I interpreted as losing synch. The replacement they sent had the identical problem. The only other person I could find with a Qubie had also been through 2 modems. One didn't work at all, and the other had the same problem as the 2 I had. Where these QA problems? Have they been fixed? Who knows? Though the experience gave me a low opinion of their modem, it was a pleasure dealing with Qubie. They were prompt in replacing the modem and returning my money, no questions asked. Now using a Hayes, Jim
