[bionet.molbio.bio-matrix] research summary

KARP@SUMEX-AIM.STANFORD.EDU (Peter Karp) (10/27/88)

I've been thinking about what type of information I'd like to see
fill the void that has more or less occupied this bboard in the past.
My conclusion is that I (and hopefully others) would be very interested
in reading summaries of research projects which people are conducting.
I submit that interesting summaries can be composed in a short time.
Such summaries might include information such as:

o What biological problem is being addressed?
o What computer science problem is being addressed?
o How many people are involved in the effort?
o What techniques are being applied? For computer techniques this might
include a description of what kind of machine and database or knowledge
    representation software is being used.
o What results have been produced so far, e.g., how big a database has
been constructed and what sort of knowledge does it contain and is it
available to other people, preferably over a network?

I'll attempt to follow my own suggestion in the next message.

Peter
