			   Bio-Matrix News

There is some good news to report about the Bio-Matrix project.

* With the kind assistance of Ms. Ginger Richardson and Ms. Rhonda
Butler-Vill of the Santa Fe Institute, a Bio-Matrix flier has
been prepared and printed. We will be distributing these at any and
all relevant scientific meetings. *** If you would like some to
distribute to your department or office, or would be willing to take
some to your next meeting(s), please contact Dan Davison at the
address below. *** All forms of distribution are welcome! The flyer
is a 8 1/2 x 11 in. page trifolded with a mail-back response form.
The form can be used to request further information, join the
Matrix Project, or get a copy of the Bio-Matrix workshop report.

* Dr. Bob Bolender is organizing the Matrix Primer. The Primer is a
document designed to introduce the Matrix concept. Individual
chapters will deal with bio-informatics in general, as well as
knowledge base, information retrieval, and artificial intelligence
applications for the life scientist

* In a separate posting, there is an announcement about a Master's
program in bio-informatics just established at the George Mason
University. The program can be entered through the Biology Department
or the Computer Science Department.

* Reminder: if you haven't sent in a listing for the MATRIX-LIST,
please do. If you indicate, the listing will be placed on the
archive-server. The idea of the MATRIX-LIST is to have a directory of
people interested in bio-informatics, and to allow people with a
problem to contact other Matrixers (Matrixen?) that are willing to
help. If you need a form send the line
	send matrix matrix-form
to the archive-server. If you would like to get the MATRIX-LIST, send
the line
	send matrix matrix-list
to the archive-server.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Requests to be added to the direct-distribution mailing list should be
sent to BIO-MATRIX-REQUEST@BIONET-20.BIO.NET. (BITNET:
BIO-MATRIX-REQUEST%BIONET-20.BIO.NET@CUNYVM)

Submissions for the list are always encouraged, and should be sent to
BIO-MATRIX@BIONET-20.BIO.NET
(BITNET: BIO-MATRIX%BIONET-20.BIO.NET@CUNYVM)

The BIO-MATRIX archive-server can be contacted from most networks and
can reply to all known networks (no failures yet!). For info, send
the line
	help
to
archive-server@genome.lanl.gov (internet),
archive-server%genome.lanl.gov@CUNYVM (bitnet, EARN, IRLEARN)
...cmcl2!lanl!archive-server@genome.lanl.gov (UUCP)
(JANET and JUNET can reach the server also, but I haven't figured out
the proper path. Please check with your local mail wizard).
