From: Mike Blackwell <MKB@CMU-CS-C.ARPA> I'm in need of some dual UARTs in 40-pin DIPs. Does anybody know of such a beast? All of the ones I've seen are 48-pin... I don't need any frills, any old generic UART will do. Thanks for any info pointers you can provide! cheers, -m- (mkb@cmu-cs-c)

The Z-80 SIO, Z80-DART, and Zilog SCC (8530???) are all dual uarts of varying degrees of sophistication and programming difficulty. Check your local Zilog rep for literature. The SCC has built-in baud rate generators which could be worth it. -- -Brian Kantor, UC San Diego ihnp4 \ Kantor@Nosc decvax \ akgua ----- sdcsvax ----- brian dcdwest/ ucbvax/ "I'll never be cruel to a gin and tonic again!"

The Motorola/Signetics 2681 is two full-function UARTs, including baud-rate generators and parallel i/o for modem control, in a single 40-pin DIP. (There are smaller versions with less parallel i/o, and a 48-pin 68000-bus version, also.) -- Henry Spencer @ U of Toronto Zoology {allegra,ihnp4,linus,decvax}!utzoo!henry
