I am attempting to install MH-6.6 using a Sun 4 (running SunOS 4.0.3) as a POP server, and an HP 9000/360 (running HP-UX 6.5) as a POP client. With a small amount of hacking, I was able to get MH compiled and installed on the Sun. It took a bit more hacking to get MH compiled on the HP, and even then, I never got the POP subdirectory compiled. I don't think this matters though, because the HP is not a POP server. After getting MH more or less installed on both the Sun and HP, the following problems occurred. The first problem was whenever I tried to use popwrd(8) to generate a password for a POP subscriber on the Sun, I got a segmentation fault. To get around this problem, I reconfigured MH with the RPOP option, so remote subscribers can read mail without supplying a password. Then, I got an error on the HP that says: inc: -ERR unknown command: "rpop" If anyone actually has POP working on their system, I would appreciate any helpful suggestions you could offer. Thanks in advance. -- ------------------------------------------------------------ Lynn Brackett UUCP: ...mcnc!rti!bnrunix!lnb Bell Northern Research (919) 991-7798

This article is being re-posted because my site lost news several days last week due to hardware problems. Please re-post any responses. I apologize for any inconvenience this re-posting may cause. I am attempting to install MH-6.6 using a Sun 4 (running SunOS 4.0.3) as a POP service host, and an HP 9000/360 (running HP-UX 6.5) as a POP client. Both systems use sendmail/smtp as the message transport system. I was able to compile and install MH on the Sun. It took some source modifications to compile MH on the HP, and even then, I wasn't able to get the POP subdirectory compiled. I don't think this matters though, because the HP is not a POP service host. I configured both machines with the DPOP and RPOP options. After getting MH more or less installed on both machines, I created a POP database on the Sun to allow me to read mail from my HP without supplying a password. When I attempted to incorporate new mail into my mailbox, I got the following error messages. On the HP: bnrxyz <lnb> inc inc: -ERR unknown command: "rpop" On the Sun (running /etc/popd): bnrunix <pop> [6] servicing bnrxyz/1021 [7] ---> +OK bnrunix RPOP server ready (Comments to: PostMaster@bnrunix) [7] <--- USER lnb [7] ---> +OK password required for lnb [7] <--- RPOP lnb [7] ---> -ERR unknown command: "rpop" [7] <--- QUIT [7] ---> +OK(null) If anyone has POP working on a similar system, I would appreciate any helpful suggestions you could offer.
