I believe you're having some problems with mail receipt: the message I sent you in reply to your posting about slocal was returned from your .forward with this comment by the maildaemon: >>> RCPT To:<mehra@rhea.csl.uiuc.edu> <<< 554 /home/rhea/mehra/.forward: line 2: " | (/bin/su mehra <... Unbalanced '"' 554 mehra@rhea... Service unavailable ----- Here's the original message that was returned. I hope it helps. My .forward file: ----- "| /usr/local/lib/mh/slocal -user abbo" ----- (you have to include the double quotes) My .maildelivery file: ----- From china-nd%kentvm file A china >From china-nn%asuacad file A china From hknet@cs.wisc.edu file A china From ethmus-l%umdd file A sem From ecz5dsw@uclamvs.bitnet file A ~/Projects/diwan default - > A /usr/spool/mail/abbo * - ^ R rcvalert ----- All of these files can be edited pretty easily and printed via a shell script without ever having to open an editor. That's really how asynchronous delivery is designed to work, for stuff that you don't need to read (or don't need to read right away) but need for distribution or archival purposes. I believe your .maildelivery file has to be readable by only root or user. The only problems I have had with slocal are during peak usage times when slocal times out and the message bounces. Sometimes I get the message through regular mail, sometimes it goes all the way back to the sender. I don't think it's serious. Maybe once every 2 months.
