[comp.mail.mh] inc parsing headers

tr@samadams.princeton.edu (Tom Reingold) (11/16/90)

Ok. I think I'm really close now. After so long, I've got a
configuration of MH on my 3b2 running System V release 3.2, and it
works almost right. If anyone wants help with putting MH on System V,
send me email. My system has sendmail, and if yours doesn't, I may not
be able to help you.

My problem is in the way inc parses mail headers. It probably has a
sensible algorithm, but the mailers where I work don't use sensible
mailers. For example, mail I get looks like:

From uucp Thu Nov 15 18:17:05 EST 1990
>From uucp Thu Nov 15 18:16:05 EST 1990 remote from sitea
>From joe Thu Nov 15 18:15:05 EST 1990 remote from siteb

This is when I am getting mail from sitea!siteb!joe. But inc thinks
it's merely from joe. Is there a fix for this, such as a
configuration option? You may be tempted to tell me to fix /bin/mail
on my site. I would be willing to do that if it will help, but since
I can't change /bin/mail on the intermediate sites, I don't see how it
will help to change my own /bin/mail.

Also, sometimes System V does not put a blank line between the header
and the body of a message. It would be nice if inc recognized that
the body was beginning because the first word of the line does not end
in a ':'. Is this fixable?

Thanks!
