[comp.mail.mh] strange error on DECsomething 3100

trost@REED.BITNET (02/26/91)

...as in

  What now? send -verbose -watch
-- Posting for All Recipients --
post: problem initializing server; [BHST] no servers available
send: message not delivered to anyone

This only happens on one of our client DECsomethings; another one with
the same (physically the same, not just identical contents)
configuration files works fine.

Anyone know what's going on here?

Oh, this is MH 6.7.0 (can't apply the patches yet...pbtthhh), and
Ultrix 4.0+ (I think).

Oops, you might want the following:

version: MH 6.7 #15[UCI] (vishnu) of Thu Apr 19 17:02:04 PDT 1990
options: [BSD42] [BSD43] [DUMB] [FOLDPROT='"0700"'] [BERK] [MHE] [BIND]
[RPATHS] [ISI] [ATZ] [SBACKUP='"#"'] [RPOP] [MHRC] [NTOHLSWAP]
[OVERHEAD] [SENDMTS] [SMTP] [POP] [BPOP] [NNTP]

Pbbthhh. Well, that was fun. I guess I need sendmail running for the
program to talk to it.

Thanks for your patience.

My best guess is that you compiled MH with the /SMTP option,
but have not given it any (or correct) servers in your ETCDIR/mtstailor
file. Look at the mh-tailor(5) man page for more info.

Same mtstailor file?

When you submit problems, it might be more helpful for others if
you take the info from the command from "send -help" and include
it in your message. Depending on the different options used, some
MH commands will behave differently. Unless you give other MH users
that info, they can only guess as to what might be wrong.

For example, here's the info for from our Sun3 installation:

version: MH 6.7 #3[UCI] (alborz) of Tue Feb 19 05:37:41 EST 1991
options: [ATZ] [BIND] [BSD42] [BSD43] [SUN40] [ISI] [MHE] [MHRC]
         [NTOHLSWAP] [RPATHS] [TZNAME] [ZONEINFO] [FOLDPROT='"0700"']
         [MSGPROT='"0600"'] [SBACKUP='"#"'] [TYPESIG='void'] [SENDMTS]
