[net.news.group] net.sun, anyone?

jdd (03/29/83)

My impression is that a lot of places on the net have, or will soon have,
Sun workstations from Sun Microsystems, Inc. How does the idea of a net.sun
sound? (Or a net.micro.sun, although net.micro might have a ghettoizing
influence.)

Net.sun could serve to exchange information on topics such as system
configuration guidelines, administration experiences, benchmark results,
etc. It could also be used for exchanging programs specific to the Sun,
such as ones taking advantage of the bit-map graphics, the single-user
environment, or network communications, not to mention hacking Unix.

Net.sun does not really duplicate any existing newsgroups: net.micro.68k is
not really apropos, while it would be quite a bit narrower in scope than
net.unix-wizards .

Arguments against net.sun might include its being \too/ narrow in scope,
being dedicated to discussions of a single machine, or its being too early,
inasmuch as most plans for getting Suns are still plans.

Would people please send their opinions to me? I will summarize.
