[comp.mail.mh] Using forw -digest, and digestcomps

cczdao@mips.nott.ac.uk (David Osborne) (03/16/91)

Each week, I use forw -digest to send the UKTeX Digest out to about
340 addresses (one of which injects a copy into comp.text.tex). I've
just "moved house" so I can handle all my mail on this machine, so
this week was the first digest issue I've sent out from
mips.nott.ac.uk (UKTeX V91 #11).

Due to some problem I haven't yet fathomed, the To: address was
mangled. I have an alias "dist-UKTeX:UKTeX@dir.nott.ac.uk" to
translate the address from digestcomps to be the address for my list,
which is set up in the PP MTA on dir. What was sent out was
    To: UKTeX Distribution: mips.nott.ac.uk@dir.nott.ac.uk ;
which has started to cause problems on recipient machines (PP puts in
a Pp_Warning: parse error message for this offending address).

I'm not sure where to start looking, but I don't think MH is at fault.
It's more likely to be my sendmail on this machine (5.61, running on
RiscOS 4.51). More likely, in fact, to be my sendmail config :-(

I'd be interested to hear how others using forw -digest cope with
things like setting up their list-address... is using an MH alias the
best way? Or do you have a private copy of digestcomps which you edit
appropriately. And if your list is expanded on another machine, like
mine, do you post using SMTP to that machine directly, or via the
machine on which you run forw? Which of those is better (more efficient)?

Here are the details of forw:
version: MH 6.7.1 #6[UCI] (mips) of Fri Feb 15 08:56:22 GMT 1991
options: [ATHENA] [ATZ] [BSD42] [MHE] [MHRC] [RPATHS] [UK] [ZONEINFO]
         [SENDMTS] [SMTP]
