[comp.mail.mh] post and an RT

irvin@northstar26 (Tim Irvin) (05/01/91)

Suddenly on our IBM RTs, mh's post command can't send mail out. I am
at a loss as to where to start tracking down this problem.

The symptoms:
When using MH to send mail on the RT's the following comes back after
a long (1-2 min) pause:

irvin: post: unexpected response; [BHST] no socket opened
send: message not delivered to anyone

I then tried a "post" with watch and verbose to see what might be happening:

irvin> /usr/local/lib/mh/post -watch -verbose /afs/northstar/user2/irvin/Mail/drafts/33
-- Posting for All Recipients --
  -- Local Recipients --
irvin: post: unexpected response; [BHST] no socket opened

Our MH:

version: MH 6.7.1 #3[UCI] (northstar7) of Tue Feb 5 11:20:39 EST 1991
options: [BSD42] [BSD43] [BIND] [NTOHLSWAP] [MHRC] [SBACKUP='"#"']
         [SENDMTS] [SMTP]

Any pointers would be appreciated. BTW, only the RT's are affected, (we also
have Sun3, Sun4, and RS6000 machines). Sendmail has not be altered, infact
nothing has really changed on these machines.

Thanks,
