[comp.mail.mh] is slocal broken or do I need to do something undocumented?

phil@ux1.cso.uiuc.edu (Phil Howard KA9WGN) (05/16/91)

I am trying to use slocal only (i.e. not mh) to separate my incoming mail
before I read it. Some mail will go to special files but the rest is to
be delivered as usual.

The "bug" is that when slocal delivers mail to the regular mailbox, it
fails to add the extra newline character that is needed in order for
the string "\n\nFrom" to be recognized to separate individual messages.

I am in desparate need to get something to work and I really don't have
the time to wait for a bug to be fixed. I am also kind of shocked that
a bug of this kind can get out. Perhaps there is some magical incantation
I just don't know because I don't use mh.

E-mail replies are OK because I am not applying this to this particular
system (yet).

No, you found a bug, but it was already fixed in MH 6.7.1. You will
need to have your admins get the patch from ics.uci.edu and compile
it in. There is no magical incantation that would get it to work with
MH 6.7, though.

you may want to check out the deliver program. it is designed just
for this task and works quite well. though i don't personally use it
(i use mh), i have users that have their mail sorted by deliver.
deliver was posted to comp.sources.unix a while back. look for it at
an archive site near you.
