When you think about it you'll have to admit that that kind of problem with arrays comes up all the time, even when writing lispmachine microcode. Anyone who has written a decent compiler has had to think about it, in fact, I've never seen a compiler book with a list price over $15.00 which didnt mention it in some respect. Example: The Manual for the Lattice C compiler version 4.0 for the AMIGA mentions it on page 4-16.
