[net.micro] Apologies for posting but can't seem to mail direct today

Understood that the 7220 is SLOW. It's that way because it's a
microcoded machine instead of a state machine. That's one way that NEC
gets so many features packed into its chips, but it does indeed make
things run at less than a snail's pace. Their 7261 hard disk controller
takes as long as 1500 microseconds to generate a transfer-complete
interrupt!

In many applications, especially for personal computers, the 7220 may be
enough. Its feature set makes it attractive because it's easy to
control.

Your comments aren't unappreciated. Thanks for taking the time to
reply.

Cheers,
Dick Binder (The Stainless Steel Rat)
