[comp.lang.scheme] Scheme for IBM PC compatible

muller@bu-cs.BU.EDU (Robert Muller) (04/22/89)

I'm looking for an interpreter or compiler for Scheme for an IBM PC.
Does anyone out there know of a reasonably cheap (i.e., free) version?
Thanks.

I'm posting this since it might be of general interest.

Xscheme, the Scheme equivalent of Xlisp is available from
tut.cis.ohio-state.edu by ftp and from osu-cis.uucp by
uucp. It is /pub/Xscheme.tar on tut. It make properly on
pc's and Unixes and is writeen in C.

You want PC-Scheme from Texas Instruments. Retail from TI in Dallas is
about $95, and there are substantial educational discounts.

TI's implementation is very fast, has gobs of good features (including
understanding '87 chips, expanded and extended memory, etc.), suffers only a
handful of bugs, and is wonderfully documented.

Unless you're _really_ short on cash, it's not worth messing with anything
else. Good luck.
