[net.micro] IEEE-488 interfaces for multibus computers

jeff@fluke.UUCP (Jeff Stearns) (07/19/84)

Here I've got this nifty SUN workstation which would be even more wonderful
if it could talk to laboratory instruments via the IEEE-488 bus (aka GPIB).

The SUN workstation has a Multibus backplane, so all I need to do is buy
an IEEE-488 interface card and plug it in (the software is presumed to appear
by magic).

Herein lies the question...

I'm aware of only one vendor who makes such a device: National Instruments.
(They offer both an interrupt-driven and a DMA board.)

I've been told by other engineers to be wary of their (similar) products,
and I don't want to get taken upon a great hardware debugging adventure.

Do you know of any other vendor who sells IEEE-488 <=> Multibus interfaces?

Do you have any experience with National Instrument's product?

If you want further information, of have any to share, please reply by mail.
Thanx -
