When you use the "Append" mode to add data to an existing sequential file, the length of the file (# of blocks) recorded in the directory ends up greater than the actual length of the file. The BAM is correct, as is the file; only the length info in the directory entry is wrong. This seems to cause no problem other than displaying the wrong length. If you add up the free blocks (after a "validate") plus the lengths of the files, you get "more" than 664!! I called Commodore and asked; they said they just found out about append mode a few months ago, and do not yet support answering questions about it! How's that for a well informed customer support staff. Next thing, they'll be telling me they don't know what the "&" command does. Frank
