I have a 3130, 2400T, and a mVAX II running ULTRIX, and a mVAX II running VMS. (And a headache!) All of these machines are hanging on an ethernet, and all have FTP and TELNET. I can telnet between all of the machines. But I cannot FTP between all of them. The possible connections are; ULTRIX <-> IRIS (both) ULTRIX <-> VMS VMS -----> IRIS IRIS -//-> VMS When I try to 'open vms' on the IRIS's ftp, it gives me a "segmentation violation, core dumped" message. However, if I run ftp on the VMS system, and 'open iris1' or 'open iris2' it works well. Any hints, anecdotes, fixes ??? Dan

Make sure it has the proper protocol i.e. possibly TCP/IP. If it is XNS it has to be changed using "kernel xns" command. Other than this your "ifconfig" command line set up seems to be ok as you can telnet from vms. -rasesh

No, not at all. It was mentioned that telnet works just fine in both directions from all machines. That means that the kernel should be perfectly happy chewing on tcp. The problem is more likely in /etc/hosts or tcp configuration files on the irises, or in the VMS tcp implementation (whose is it?).
