I'm looking for a inexpensive RS170A RGB-> composite encoder for a 3030. Saw an ad for a TEL-ENC-1G from Communications Specialties Inc, of Commack, NY which costs $395. Anyone know anything about this unit? Could I use a monitor with RGB in-composite out (e.g SONY PVM1271Q) for this purpose?

Just about any encoder should be better than the $1.50 encoder chips that SGI uses. Be warned though, even if you have the gen-lock option, SGI machines never output broadcast quality NTSC video.

Pardon my ignorance, but WHAT $1.50 encoder chips? Do you mean that
the 3030 already puts out composite video?
