The button up problem was a bug and it has been fixed in the 3.0 maintenance release. There is no question that server programming is hard. However all the PostScript source is delivered (it has to be, of course) and anyone who develops an understanding of it can change it. The ASCII terminal is suggested because during development it is easy to make mistakes that render the server inoperative and the ASCII terminal provides a way to connect to the server and find the problem, to look at the logfile output and to kill the server. This is not true for programming in the user.ps file. This is protected so that if an error is detected while reading it the server ignores the entire contents and runs as if you didn't have a user.ps file. -Mark
