[net.micro] CTS Modem

mlsmith@NADC.ARPA (08/07/84)

I ordered a Hayes modem and in the spirit of competition got a CTS
model 212AH modem instead. The salesman told the buyer it was "Just like a
Hayes." Well it's not, but unless you have a heavy investment in Hayes
command programs it is satisfactory. The only gripe so far is the character
length setting. On power up it is necessary to go into parameter setup to
change the word to 10 bits per character. This should be on a power up dip
switch. The modem is hooked on a Localnet(TM) so it can be available to
multiple users. One plus over the Hayes is that the modem does not demand
Upper Case commands (which in turn tells some systems I talk to that I have
a teletype device when I forget to turn off cap lock). At $330 real money
(don't know list) it is a contender in the "smart" & "cheap" category.

P.S. No flames from those who think $330 is not cheap. Compare with the Hayes
     $699 list!
