My answers:

1) Don't know - never used it
2) Any HP-IL compatible device (e.g. Cassette Tape) but probably none cheaper
   than the card reader.
3) You can use those registers, but tend to get register bound i.e. you 
   probably need at least 20 for the most complicated problems. However
   a better use is to load the registers with needed constants (e.g. Pi)
   as entering constants in a program is inefficient (one program step
   for each digit!) 
4) Gee I miss another one.
