Can someone explain how swapping works in IRIX 3.2? It doesn't look like swap space is being allocated on the disk until it's actually necessary to swap a process out. This seems different than 4.{2,3} BSD, which wants to allocate space on the swapping device as you allocate physical memory. No? # /etc/swap -l path dev swaplo blocks free /dev/dsk/dks0d1s1 22,33 0 102256 102256 /dev/dsk/dks0d2s0 22,64 0 102256 102256 Does IRIX interleave swapping between multiple disks to take full advantage of the increase in I/O that is possible? jdh ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jason Heirtzler (617) 353-2780 jdh@bu-pub.bu.edu Information Technology Boston University ..!harvard!bu-cs!bu-it!jdh
