Has anyone tried 4MB simms on an IRIS 4D/25 or and IRIS 4D/70? If so: o How did they work? o What speed were they (80 or 100 nsec)? o Where did you purchase them? o How much did they cost? Thanks, Michael Schuh schuh@pioneer.arc.nasa.gov

I have tested 4Mbit simms on a 4D/25 without problems. I took it all the way to 64Megabytes. However, you need to be at a certain rom revision in order for the 4mbit simms to be recognized. I believe the revision is 3.2 rev E (I would really appreciate someone at SGI confirming this). Please note the following: You cannot mix 1 megabyte simms and 4megabyte simms together. It is all or nothing. You must also add in increments of 4 simms (16 Megabytes). My vendor is Impediment, 617/837-8877. I don't have a price since I got these simms on loan for evaluation. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Andrew Simms ams@acm.princeton.edu System Administrator Program in Applied and Computational Math Princeton University Princeton, NJ 08544 609/258-5324 or 609/258-6227 609/258-1054 (fax)

All versions of PROM should be able to figure out the type of SIMMS you are using, either 1MB or 4MB. -- David
