[comp.sys.sgi] X question under Irix 3.2

ianh@merlin.bhpmrl.oz (Ian Hoyle) (02/23/90)

Posted for a colleague doing some X development:

How can X be setup to have a visual of alt class "Direct Color" ie 24 bit color
on the Personal Iris under Irix 3.2 ??

Using the command xdpyinfo gives

number of visuals    2

	.
	.
Visual 1
	.
	.
	class	Static Color
	.
	.
Visual 2
	.
	.
	class	Pseudo Color

		thanx in advance,

  The X server shipped with 3.2 doesn't support any 24 bit
visual.  Sorry.

rats :-(

This will throw the development work of the group in question into a tail spin
for the moment. They are doing code development for an image processing
application for minerals exploration and they _need_ the 24 bit colour.

Will it be supported in the next release of the X server, and if so could an
interim patch be done? (I guess there are others who would like 24 bit also).

thanx for the reply Jeff,
