FYI We have been installing maintenance updates on many of our +60 SGI 4D systems and have found that the date/time is reported as 1989 instead of 1990. This can cause problems in the installation of your software especially when it tries to do the auto config since /unix "more recent" than the fixes which you have just installed. We are doing the installation over the network and so it may be related to grabbing the software from disk instead of /dev/tape. The quick fix is to "sh" and set the date right when you boot up the miniroot/installation program. Without setting the date right there may be problems with access to the network and associated programs (i.e. named), graphics (NeWS). Has anyone else tripped over this? -Paul Stay stay@brl.mil
