[comp.sys.sgi] more named problems

TORDA@HGRRUG52.BITNET (03/14/90)

With regards to named problem message from Eric Pearce on march
14.
I had the same problems and now have new ones.
Two things helped the first problem
1. Fix up the nameserver so it returns the name localhost (as
suggested by Lee A Butler).
2. Go into the /usr/NeWS/lib/NeWS and edit init.ps.
Change NetSecurityWanted from true to false.

Having done this, my named works, the window system starts, but
now wsh from a toolchest won't work. The console window opens,
and from that I can invoke a wsh (just not from the toolchest
icon/menu).
The most likely relevant error message from SYSLOG seems to be

This all happens under Irix 3.1 and 4sight 1.2

WARNING: This will allow ANYONE from ANY MACHINE with IP access to your
machine to talk to your NeWS server! This implies the ability to open
windows, close windows, alter windows, etc. IMHO this is a little too
trusting for ANY machine connected to the Internet!
