With regards to named problem message from Eric Pearce on march 14. I had the same problems and now have new ones. Two things helped the first problem 1. Fix up the nameserver so it returns the name localhost (as suggested by Lee A Butler). 2. Go into the /usr/NeWS/lib/NeWS and edit init.ps. Change NetSecurityWanted from true to false. Having done this, my named works, the window system starts, but now wsh from a toolchest won't work. The console window opens, and from that I can invoke a wsh (just not from the toolchest icon/menu). The most likely relevant error message from SYSLOG seems to be Mar 14 10:11:04 RUGMD2 grcond[4436]: CIO: Stack: file(?,W,R) file(?,W,R) Mar 14 10:11:04 RUGMD2 grcond[4436]: CIO: Executing: `getsocketpeername' Mar 14 10:11:04 RUGMD2 At: {200 'dict' 'begin' 'initmatrix' `newprocessgroup' /ConnectionNumber ConnectionNumber 1 'add' 'store' /ProcessGroup ConnectionNumber 'def' 'exch' 'pop' 'exch' 'pop' 'dup' *`getsocketpeername' /OriginatingHost 'exch' 'def' RemoteHostRegistry OriginatingHost 'known' OriginatingHost `localhostname' `anchorsearch' array{6} array{2} 'ifelse' 'or' NetSecurityWanted 'not' 'or' array{20} array{8} 'ifelse' `currentprocess' `killprocessgroup'} Mar 14 10:11:24 RUGMD2 grcond[4436]: Child process /bin/wsh terminated with stat us 9 Mar 14 10:11:24 RUGMD2 grcond[4436]: CIO: Hangup This all happens under Irix 3.1 and 4sight 1.2 In confusion Andrew Torda (bitnet) torda@hgrrug52
