[comp.sys.sgi] Third party SCSI disk drives

SERRER@nrcm3.nrc.ca (Martin Serrer - Systems Analyst) (04/09/90)

Hello out there in iris land,

Picure this... IRIS 4D50/GT with small (170 MByte) ESDI disk and SCSI tape
drive ( "there sure is lots of space in the tape drive box for 'stuff'" I say to
myself. )
The stuff... 200 MByte 3.5" winchester, ( Maxtor LXT200S, SCSI interface, very
inexpensive, about $1300 Cdn.)
The operation... make up a new SCSI cable/power cable/mounting bracket. Bolt
it all together and what do you get. Success???

Has anyone tried anything like this? I am successfully using these drives in
VAXStation and DECStation 3100's and if they work with DEC's SCSI I would think
they should work with everyones.
Has anyone got any comments on partitioning the disk once it is physically
installed?
  Thank's in advance... Martin
