Ian Hoyle from down under asked about experience with mixing different cpu types in one box. I ran a very complicated program (but not a parallel on) as a bench mark on the SGI power series compute server that was on the SGI "Magic Bus" touring the country. The server had four 25 MHz and four 33 MHz processors. Without recompiling, the program ran on 16 Mhz, 25 Mhz and 33 Mhz processors with speed-up almost linear with clock speed. To specify the processor, I just used the "runon" command. Thanks to SGI for providing time for bench marking "real" programs on their demo machine! Lance M.
